Soar Sister Meet Up {Bellingham Photographer}

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

In December you may remember I applied for a Soar! Scholarship through MeRa Koh I had to make a 2 min. video explaining why I wanted to Soar in 2010. I didn’t win and that is fine. However I have met several new photographer buddies some are online only and some I have met in person. A couple weekends ago I got the chance to meet up with Jen and Julie in Bellevue. We did some chatting and then photographed each other it was a lot of fun. Here are a couple of my favorite shots……

Gratitude

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

I entered to win a Photography Scholarship in December put on by MeRa Koh. I didn’t win which I really never thought I would and that is ok. Read more about it here.  If you have been reading my blog for a while you know that MeRa has helped me a ton with getting my business going.

A lot of the ladies that applied up for the Scholarship have formed a group called Soar Sisters not to be confused with Seattle Sista’s.   We have all been chatting, networking, sharing information and most of all being each others cheering section (Melinda I stole that term from you).  When I applied for the scholarship I had no idea the group of ladies I would meet.  In fact I will be meeting at least one of them tonight I am going to listen to MeRa Speak in Seattle.  ANYWAY I de-railed a bit.

The Soar sisters got together and created a gratitude video for MeRa and Brian showing them our gratitude.  MeRa posted it on her blog today I hope you will check it out.  MeRa and Brian do so much in the photography community to inspire and empower women to follow their dreams.  I cannot thank them enough.

Check out the video:

busy busy

Friday, August 28th, 2009

This week has been such a busy week for me.

On Monday morning Me Ra Koh (remember I went to her workshop in June) sent out a email to all the girls from our workshop asking if anyone could meet her in Seattle that night for dinner and to help her out. I thought to myself oh how cool but realized I wouldn’t be able to get down there without just leaving work. So I went on with my day. Around 3:30 pm Jennifer a girl from my workshop (who happens to live in Lynden) basically told me she was coming to get me. So by 3:45 pm Jennifer and I were on our way to Seattle. I didn’t get to go home and change or anything. We met Sarah and Me Ra in Seattle at a great restaurant. We chatted and all caught up with each other and whats been going on since our workshop and then we were off to help Me Ra. She was speaking to a mom’s with camera’s group. We all helped answer questions and sold Me Ra’s Dvds (if you are at all interested in Photography or learning you should check them out).  Jennifer and I headed back home around 10:00 pm and I finally got home around 1:30 am :)   It was a late night but worth it.  I had a great time getting to know Jennifer more on the ride.

On Wednesday I did a High School Senior photo shoot for my boss Kim’s son (photo’s coming soon).  I left work at noon to head to a PUG (Pictage User Group) meeting in Tacoma at Me Ra and Brian’s house that I had planned on attending.  Originally Chris was planning on coming with me but he has been working tons off Overtime so Jennifer and I headed down South once again.  We picked up Phillipa along the way too.  The PUG meeting was a great place for networking we met tons of other photographers who were 100% willing to share information and tips with you. The Youngrens were guest speakers here from California.  Their talk was about Keepin’ it Real in a Rockstar World. It was a great evening.  We had another long drive home thanks to road construction.

Thursday Chris and I did my long time friend Jennifer and her family’s photo shoot!  It was great to see Jennifer and her family it had been way to long.  Jennifer and I have know each other since kindergarten. She is a photographer too. I will save more information on her and her family for when I post her pictures.

What a busy week I so excited to be keeping so busy and I am so excited about my future in photography

Photograpy Workshop

Monday, June 8th, 2009

I just got back from a photography workshop weekend!  What a great experience.  It was hosted by Me Rah Koh Photography!  It was inspiring and sooo empowering.  We all received a handmade folder with all sorts of information in it.  Well, I didn’t read everything in it till last night.  This really jumped out to me… here is what it said:  MeRa and Brian have a heart to empower, ignite passion, and love on you.  From their past workshops, they know beyond a shadow of a doubt that each of you are here for a reason.  But the weekend won’t be contained to the reason you came.

Their prayer is that this weekend will unfold into a beautiful, life changing window of time.  A window where you took time to water your creative soul – you stepped into an unfamiliar place with your camera and made space for yourself – you met new girlfriends who are on a similar journey and you began to find your voice in your images.
